About the programme

The M.S. in Human Factors in Information Design (HFID) is run by the Experience Design department in Bentley's McCallum Graduate School of Business. It combines UX with behavioural science and business, and its curriculum covers inclusive design, accessibility, ethics and design for AI and emerging technologies.

The degree is 10 courses (30 credits): three human factors core courses, five human factors electives and two business electives. The core covers foundations of human factors, managing the experience design process (or UX leadership), and testing and assessment. Electives include information architecture, visualising information, measuring the user experience, design ethics, intelligent user interfaces, immersive and conversational interfaces, and multimodal experience design.

The school says nearly every course includes an industry-sponsored project. Students also have access to Bentley's User Experience Center, a consultancy that employs graduate research assistants, and to faculty labs in haptics and in virtual and augmented reality.

Format
In person in Waltham, Massachusetts, or live online via Zoom. You can mix the two, and study full-time or part-time.
Length
10 courses (30 credits). Bentley does not publish a fixed duration; part-time students often take one course at a time.
Cost
$6,335 per course in 2026-27, or $63,350 for the 10 courses. Fees are listed separately on Bentley's student accounts fee chart.
Admissions
Fall is the main intake, with a spring (January) start too. Full-time fall 2027 rounds close on 1 November, 14 December 2026 and 1 February 2027, then admissions are rolling; international applicants are advised to apply by 1 June. You need a resume, an essay, a recommendation letter and transcripts. The GRE is optional, but test-free applicants need relevant experience and an interview with the programme director.
Capstone
There is no single capstone listed. Instead, client-sponsored projects run through most courses.

Who it suits

Suits people with some UX or tech experience who want a business-school UX degree they can take part-time, in person or live online, around a job. People new to UX are pointed towards Bentley's UX certificate first.
