AI UX checklists and templates

Free checklists and templates for designing products with AI and large language model features. Each one is a full page you can read and tick through here, and a print-ready PDF you can download.

AI features fail differently from the rest of a product. They are wrong some of the time, they can be wrong in a confident voice, their output changes when the model changes, and in the EU some of them now come with legal disclosure duties. These resources cover the design work that follows from that: setting expectations, showing sources, handling hallucinations and outages, labelling AI content, and keeping people in control of agents that act on their behalf.

Every item is based on published guidance and links to it: Microsoft's 18 Guidelines for Human-AI Interaction (Amershi et al., CHI 2019), Google PAIR's People + AI Guidebook, Apple's Human Interface Guidelines for generative AI, research from Nielsen Norman Group, the OWASP Top 10 for LLM applications, and the official text of the EU AI Act and the GDPR on EUR-Lex. Where an item is our own advice rather than a source's, it has no link.
