About Zeplin

Zeplin is a design delivery and handoff tool. Designers publish finished screens from Figma, Sketch or Adobe XD, and developers get specs, assets, styleguides and code snippets in a separate, stable space away from work-in-progress files.

Beyond handoff, Zeplin offers Flow Boards for mapping user journeys, styleguides that link components and tokens to product work, annotations, version compare, and integrations with Jira, Azure DevOps, Storybook, Slack, Teams and a VS Code extension. There is also a Zeplin MCP server for code generation.

Newer AI features include AI Design Review, which checks screens against rules for off-system colors, spacing, typos and accessibility, and AI Organize. Desktop apps exist for macOS and Windows.

Best for: Teams that want a controlled handoff space separate from the design file, especially when developers should only see approved screens.

Strengths

  • Separates approved designs from work in progress.
  • Works with Figma, Sketch and Adobe XD.
  • Basic plan is a flat fee with unlimited users rather than per seat.
  • Integrations with Jira, Azure DevOps, Storybook and VS Code.
  • AI Design Review flags off-system styles and accessibility issues.

Limitations

  • Free plan covers only one project and 100 screens.
  • Adds a second tool if your team already uses Figma Dev Mode.
  • Flow Boards and advanced permissions need the per-seat Advanced plan.
  • AI review features have weekly usage caps per plan.

Pricing

Free plan with one project. Basic is a flat fee for unlimited users, from $13.75 per month billed annually for one project ($15 month-to-month), rising with project count. Advanced is $12 per seat per month billed annually ($15 month-to-month), and Enterprise is quote-only (USD). Checked October 2026.

When to pick something else

  • Figma: you prefer handoff through Dev Mode inside the design file
  • zeroheight: you need full design system documentation rather than screen handoff
  • Anima: you want design-to-code export
